Ron Watches Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 2

In case it wasn’t obvious from the previous post about this show, I am very intrigued and looking forward to further episodes. I think this is the first time in a long while that I’m watching an anime as it airs? Let’s get into episode two!

We’re back in the past for this second episode, and the unidentified guy from the first episode is actually Yuru and Asa’s dad. So did he give away Asa? Anyways, he’s showing Yuru the secret passage to the keep located underneath the Left and Right statues, who he says are always watching over Yuru.

We then go back to the present, where Left and Right — in their non-statue forms — tell him that they were watching over him all this time, and that they are now his Daemons. We also find out that Dera is a Daemon retainer and he’s trying to convince Daemons Left and Right to get them down the mountain because two threats are looking for Yuru here.

And one of those threats shows up! Gabby is ~asking~ Yuru to come with her, but Yuru is having none of that. He also asks for two things from Left and Right — make sure that there are survivors in the village, and to leave him alone with Gabby, as she is his. Otherwise, they can do as they please.

Asa, up in the fort, is telling her and Yuru’s grandmother that they won’t forgive her for what she did. They? Who’s they? Because it sure as hell isn’t Yuru. Or at least, it isn’t Yuru for now. He might change his mind once it’s revealed what’s been done to them.

Meanwhile, Yuru is battling Gabby in the village. Right has decided to look for survivors in the village, while Left literally kicks Gabby’s Daemon out of the way so Yuru can shoot an arrow through Gabby’s leg. As Yuru and Left pursue Gabby, Right runs into Asa as he’s rounding up survivors. And Asa? Runs into Yuru again as she helps out Gabby, who isn’t a match for Yuru and Left.

We then get what happened to Asa. She was taken from the village at six years old by her and Yuru’s parents, and the “Asa” in the fort is their grandmother’s Daemon, I guess? It doesn’t result in a reunion between Yuru and Asa, but at least the fighting stops. It looks like Asa genuinely cares for Yuru, but as she said so herself, city life has made her jaded. And boy, do I relate.

Yuru and Dera make their way down the mountain, with Dera telling him that it’s useless to go back to the village now, since someone who can take down the barrier has looked for him there. It would be easier for him to hide in the city, but I don’t know if he’s going to blend in if he insists on wearing what he wore in the village. Yuru is also unfamiliar with the modern world, as shown by his hesitation to get into Hana’s car. It does provide fish-out-of-water comedy moments, which I’m happy about. I loved the comedy in Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Meanwhile, Asa and Gabby are also getting picked up on the mountain by someone named Jin. And what do you know, there’s a Jin I know who sang a song about people on a mountain!

Stream it on Spotify too!

As both sides get off the mountain, we find out a little more about their specific organizations. Asa’s side is the Kagemoris, while Dera is with the Taderas. And that’s all we get for now, as Yuru’s group runs into Oshirasama, “a legit god on a whole other level than your average daemon!” She tells Left and Right that it won’t be easy being with one of the twins that ~divide night and day~, which tells me that this show isn’t going to be about deep sibling bonds the way Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood was.

If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
