When it comes to food assignments over at my day job, I usually remove myself from the discussion since I do not have a sophisticated palate. However, I got assigned to this because I was the one nearest to the place, and I’m kinda glad I was because I liked the food!
Purple Rice is located on the second floor of Glorietta 2, right along that line of restaurants that any Glorietta regular is familiar with. The easiest way to get to it is via the Palm Entrance, because it’s just a short walk away from there.
This is actually their sixth branch, after their branches in Forbestown in Taguig, Salcedo in Makati, SM North EDSA in Quezon City, SM City Bacoor in Cavite, and SM City Pampanga. I’ve never been to any of these other branches, so I can’t compare the food at the Glorietta branch with the food at those branches. What I do know is that the food I ate at the Glorietta branch was delicious.
In particular, I loved the curry crab & roe claypot rice, a dish that is exclusive to the Glorietta branch. The curry wasn’t spicy — I unfortunately have a low tolerance for spice — and mixing it with the egg fried rice? Get in my belly.
I also liked that the spice level for the dishes was manageable for me. When I ate Thai food in Thailand years ago, I popped a pepper in my mouth because I saw the locals do it so casually, so I thought that maybe it wasn’t that spicy. Boy, was I wrong. I literally had to sit in a corner because I drank so much water that I couldn’t finish the rest of the food.
The opening did make me feel old at a certain point because I told one of the PR people that the last Thai restaurant I remember in Glorietta was Sukhothai, and that was around before part of Glorietta blew up. She didn’t know about Sukhothai or the fact that Glorietta blew up before. I could feel my bones turn into curry crab & roe claypot rice.
Anyways, check out some of the shots I took during the Purple Rice launch!
