Ron Watches To Be Continued Episode 1

I couldn’t find a trailer for this, so I just chose this screenshot from MyDramaList instead

Okay, I actually can’t remember why I put this in my watchlist, since I did that months ago. This only recently appeared on Netflix here, but after I did a little research as I was going to watch it now, I found out this aired two years ago. Oh well, at least I’m here now. Better late than never!

The opening scene is pretty grisly, as what we see is a car accident. Is this going to be another Rearrange the Series? That series was okay, although they did kinda rush the ending. Buy anyway! Car crash! A mom crawls out of the wreckage and screams that her child is still in there, and it’s all overwrought and dramatic. Would be better if the background actors were selling the scene as well, but we get what we get.

The EMTs finally get the kid and her mom onto the ambulance to head to a hospital, where a Doctor Jirawat has just hung up the phone on some guy. He’s obviously the main guy of the show, as he’s the one the nurse hands the little girl’s severed finger to. I could have sworn it was fingers in the earlier scene, but I’m trusting the subtitles here.

After the opening credits, we go back to Chiang Mai in 2013, and we find out that Doctor Ji used to be a butcher. Or at least, I think this is Doctor Ji. He’s being teased by someone I assume is a classmate, which isn’t the case, showing that assuming does make an ass out of me. Turns out that the guy’s mom owns the market where Ji’s family has a stall, so I guess this is going to be a poor boy/rich boy love story. A classic!

While that boy remains unnamed at the moment, we get introduced to Ji’s friend Peh, who is basically his partner in slacking off, since both of them end up sleeping in class. There’s a comedic interaction with the teacher, but this show suffers from the same thing as the Thai adaptation of My Love Mix-Up and insists on LOUD SOUND EFFECTS to just drive home the fact that the scene is ~funny~. Why not let me be the judge of that?

We finally leave behind the loud soundtrack of 2013 and go back to 2024, where Ji has finished working on that child’s finger/s. Turns out he’s just an intern, but a skilled one. He’s supposed to return to Chiang Mai, but he’s delaying it because of ~that guy~ he hung up on. And that guy he hung up on? The market owner’s son. Turns out, back in 2013, they started…hanging out. Something happened to change things between them, but we’re going to have to wait to find out what it is.

Now we get another doctor in play. Or is this Peh? I think it’s Peh. Peh’s planning something, which has to happen soon, because Ji’s already at the airport to fly back to Chiang Mai. Turns out the market owner’s son, Achivich, is some sort of celebrity, because there are ads featuring him all over the airport. And wouldn’t you know it, the living, breathing Achivich is also at the airport, and he’s spotted Ji.

We find out that it’s been 10 years since they last met, and it looks like Achivich is into him. He’s asking Ji to come with him to a reunion, but Ji is non-committal. And it doesn’t look like they’re going to run into each other again in Chiang Mai, because Ji’s brother, Ki, is already there to take Ji to wherever he’s supposed to go. But before they get there, Ji asks Ki to stop at a bridge, which just so happens to be a bridge where he and Achivich used to pass by often. Is he going to be reminiscing throughout this whole episode?

Once Ji and Ki arrive home, we find out that their mom passed away from cancer, and it would have been a heartbreaking scene if it weren’t for the LOUD background music. I think they toned this down in future productions, because I honestly don’t remember the background music being this loud in the other Thai shows I’ve watched recently. Leave this behind, please! Silence can be just as powerful as a soundtrack!

Later that day, Ji and Ki head to what I am guessing is a school reunion, and we’re introduced to yet another character. We don’t get to know his name just yet, but Ki was eyeing him and his box. His box of vegetables. A later episode then! But before we end this episode, we get the expected ~surprise~. Achivich is also at this reunion, and he’s making sure that Ji knows it.

If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
