Ron Watches RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 11 Episode 8

Well, I thought I could put this out on the day of airing, but I guess I jinxed myself. But I’m here now!

Sam emerged as the frontrunner of this bracket at the end of the previous episode, and once they’re back in the Werk Room, the queens do the requisite post-mortem after their performance. Sam gets congratulated, and then Kennedy expresses her disappointment at not being at the top. Then we get the tension about giving away points, but Joey Jay and Hershii stay true to their early outs alliance, which then prompts Shuga and Kennedy to give each other their points. Everyone’s got a point now.

Another conversation happening aside from the points is who really won the lipsync in the previous episode. For whatever it’s worth, I also think that Jasmine won it, but it is Ru’s show after all, and if she thinks Sam won it, then Sam won it. I at least give Jasmine and Sam credit for being upfront. They’re not talking behind anybody’s back.

The next day, the discussion continues in the Werk Room, with Jasmine and Kennedy assuaging Sam’s feelings. And you know what? I’m with Hershii on this. You already won $10,000! Fuck whoever says you didn’t win the lipsync!

Ru then enters the Werk Room to tell the queens that there’s going to be a mini challenge today, and it’s that one where they have paddles with the queens’ faces, and they vote on which queen is so and so. This really has become a staple not just in the main show, but even in the international editions as well.

The game ends with Shuga and Joey tied and splitting a $2,500 cash prize between the two of them. With the tax and everything, do they even get anything at all? Ru then tells them that the Maxi Challenge is the Rapping Roast, the order of which the queens have to decide on their own. They should have let Shuga and Joey determine it, but they got money from the mini challenge, so I guess that’s the trade-off.

The queens start working on their raps, and Joey Jay is aiming for the gold this episode, and I think she does have a chance. She’s shown in the previous episode that she’s funny and quick with the banter, so there really is a possibility of her doing well in this challenge. But I also like that she and Shuga are upfront about being possibly the two queens who may not do as well in this challenge.

Hershii is also cautiously optimistic about her chances in the rapping roast, owing to her past experience as an emcee and a songwriter. This really could be her time to shine, and I hope she does! I remember feeling so bad for her when she was the porkchop during her season, and in post-interviews, she talked about how much money she spent.

Now, Sam Star talking about honky-tonk hip hop hell. Well. It’s very…white. But at least she owns up to it! Let’s see if it’s going to work in her favor during the actual rapping roast. Kennedy, on the other hand, admits that she’s not really a rapper herself, so this might not be the challenge for her. But she’s banking on her years as an entertainer to kick in and get her through the challenge.

The queens then gather to talk about the order of the roast, and Joey volunteers to be the first to go, since she thinks it’s going to show the judges that she’s fearless. Did somebody say fearless?

Stream it on Spotify as well!

Sam takes the last position, so the order ends up being Joey, Jasmine, Kennedy, Hershii, Shuga, and Sam. I hope everything works out for everyone!

On the day of the roast, the queens exchange the necessary banter and take a few jabs at each other, but the discussion turns serious when Hershii talks about missing her daughter’s moving up to pre-K from preschool. Kennedy also talks about her special needs sister and how difficult being a parent and a caregiver is, whatever your sexual orientation is.

The rapping roast starts and it’s not bad! I thought Joey, Jasmine, Kennedy, and Hershii were funny. The show also lets us see them discuss alliances and strategy as they prepare for the runway, and I think this is the first time they have done it? Could be wrong!

The queens get on the runway, and I really liked Jasmine’s look! Same with Hershii’s! It’s really giving me The Age of Innocence, and I loved the book and the movie. It’s hard to tell from the judges’ critiques which one of the queens is going to be at the top, since they all got good critiques.

Once the queens return, it’s Kennedy and Hershii who end up the top queens of the week, and my heart hurt a little seeing Hershii get emotional. I love that this happened for her. But she still has to battle Kennedy in the lip sync, and unfortunately, Kennedy won the moment she brought out that flask. Again, there really is no underestimating experience. Kennedy demolished that.
