We’re finally at the third and final bracket, and I’m finally caught up with the rest of the episodes. Yay me!
We saw Silky and Crystal move on to the semis at the end of the previous episode, and now we welcome the queens making up the third and final bracket.
First to enter the runway is Shuga Cain in blue! Her face has barely changed! I feel like her outfit isn’t put on her right, though? Although this is coming from someone who is not a fashion person. There’s just something off-kilter about it to me.
Next is Sam Star, who…well. She’s got a pretty face! I’m disappointed in this outfit because I know she can bring the GLAM. What the hell is this? She is followed by Hershii Liqcour-Jeté, who definitely has the advantage when it comes to optics because, compared to her initial season? The fashion can only improve.
Jasmine Kennedie is up next, serving body. It’s hard to look at anything else but that body. Damn. And then she’s followed by Joey Jay, the first gay Drag Race contestant? Then we get another Kennedy as Kennedy Davenport enters. It’s her third time competing if we count her time in Canada!
After the requisite explanation of the All Stars rules, the queens are told that this week’s Maxi Challenge is a design challenge, where they transform athletic gear to couture. Sam Star already has an advantage.
Once everyone’s in the Werk Room, they’re all friendly and giving each other air kisses, and recognizing the doors Joey Jay has opened for gay people, but of course, as the previous episode has shown, it’s all so they can count on getting a point. Will these queens end up breaking down like Salina did? Let’s see!
Once they’ve got their athletic gear sorted, the queens start gabbing in the Werk Room, mostly about how this is not their ideal first challenge. Shuga, Kennedy, and Hershii have already made it clear, while Jasmine is trying to lay low even if she feels she’s got a good shot at this challenge.
The walkthrough does show who Ru’s favorites are, or at least the ones that can. make Ru laugh: Joey Jay and Kennedy. Joey Jay, in particular, is a revelation because she can just lob those quips so easily.
After the walkthrough, we actually get congenial scenes from the queens that feel organic! There are some reads, but it all feels like siblings joking around with each other and not malicious. And when Jasmine gasps when Shuga reveals that she cut her fabric too short, it does actually sound like she is concerned for her. Even the alliance talk doesn’t come off as ~scheme-y~ as it did in the previous bracket.
We finally get to see the outfits that they’ve made and…Kennedy looks like she used an Ikea bag and not athletic gear. Shuga and Hershii’s outfits aren’t any better, but then again, these three queens aren’t really design queens. I don’t think Joey Jay’s look is exceptional, but she actually transformed that athletic gear into something else. Jasmine and Sam’s looks are probably the two best ones. However, the interactions with the judges may have pushed Joey Jay forward, because she really just knows how to banter. She’s so funny!
And I was wrong! It’s Jasmine and Sam in the top two, and I think Jasmine won it with the “man” point towards Sam, BUT I GUESS I JUST KNOW NOTHING BECAUSE SAM WINS.
If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
