Ron Watches The Vampire Lestat Episode 5

Am I having an episode or something? The past few days I just didn’t have the energy to do anything, and to be frank I still don’t. I was supposed to watch this yesterday, but my ~suking tindahan~ couldn’t play it properly. But I’m here now!

At the end of the previous episode, Lestat gave up on the rock star life until Gabrielle turned things around. With two more episodes left, I really wanna see where they’re going to take us now.

We start off with the band recording a song, while Lestat recalls the different coffins he’s been in over the years. There’s some talk about Pitchfork trashing his album, but what really got my attention was Lestat saying “I, Amel”. Does this mean we won’t be getting Maharet and Mekare? Is Amel going to go straight to Lestat?

But that question will have to be answered some other time, because we find out what’s happened to the rest of the band after the shooting. Gabrielle whittled down the entourage to the bare bones, while the rest of Lestat’s former hangers-on went into retirement and received payments from Lestat. And Lestat? Supposed to be dead, but still had truthers who believed he was still alive. And he still is, at least in this episode. And then Lestat says this is the episode where he talks about Akasha!

We see Lestat being ~fished out~ of the ground by Marius, who is building him up to Akasha. Marius is prepping Lestat to be the new Keeper of Those Who Must Be Kept, but it’s not a job that Lestat’s signed up for. But does he really have a choice, especially since Akasha asked for him, specifically? Also, Enkil’s already had his head bashed in here, but who really cares about Enkil anyway. Also, it’s either the site where I’m watching this from, but it could also be the fact that today’s media is just so devoid of light. I can hardly see anything when it’s the Marius/Lestat/Akasha scenes.

The non-book readers get a little lesson on how important Akasha is to the rest of the vampire world since what happens to her happens to everybody else, and then we go back to Louis, who is still using Regina as a way to cope with Claudia’s passing decades ago. And he’s even got a faux!Madeleine! As if this wasn’t already sad and creepy.

Elsewhere in the United States, Armand is equally sad as he tries to convince Daniel that he’s loved him since that time in San Francisco. He relates all the times over the decades when he’s watched over Daniel. Oh, he also tells Daniel that Lestat is committing incest with Gabrielle, but what Daniel’s really interested in is the possibility of walking under the sun again.

There is a lot of jumping in this episode as we switch between scenes between Lestat and Akasha in the past, Lestat recording the album in the “present”, and everything else that Louis and Armand have going on. And since this show is named after him, it’s Lestat’s moments that I found most engaging. Especially the scenes with Akasha. And when Louis reels him in with the whole Regina thing, and he tries his best to help Louis? Moving.

And then we get Akasha being awoken the first time, and Sheila Atim? Perfection. Now, the bit about Akasha’s blood causing Lestat’s bad luck with his fledglings? Comme ci, comme ça. By the end of the episode, the band members are asking Lestat to turn them into vampires, while Armand has pushed Larry to his death. Now we’ve got two episodes left!

If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
