Ron Does Stuff

I gotta say, this show has really been exceeding my expectations. The only thing I’m worried about now is if this is going to have a happy ending, because the way things are set up now, it would be understandable if we get a bittersweet one. But I’m still hoping!

Tanrak had a realization at the end of the last episode, which will definitely change the way he interacts with Barth, as well as the way he interacts with his faith and the people he’s grown up with so far.

We don’t have a Bible verse at the start of this episode, just a list of the seven deadly sins, with lust highlighted. Can’t blame them!

The next day, Tanrak can’t even dip his hand in the holy water. Is that the hand you jerked off with, perhaps? He does dip it in, eventually, but with a resentful look towards Barth. Or at least I’m interpreting it as resentful. Especially after Barth asks him what sins he even has to confess, and he gets a little pissed off.

Of course, in the grand tradition of gay coming of age films set involving Catholics, the priest delivers a sermon about love, with Tanrak looking at Barth and trying to discern if it is love he’s actually feeling or something that he just thinks is love. I did not expect the priest to say that it isn’t necessarily the emotion that is bad, but if you act on it, but then again I don’t know Thailand’s particular brand of Catholicism.

Now that he’s been given a sort of roadmap to deal with his ~lust~, Tanrak sorta tries to tune Barth out, but they are wearing those short shorts that numerous Thai teen shows have shown me guys wear in school and Barth has no problem using his thighs to his advantage.

But more than Tanrak’s thighs, what’s even more exciting for me is product placement! Or at least I think it’s product placement! You gotta hand it to these shows, they’re getting better and better at making it look natural when these products show up.

Tanrak even saved some of the product placement products for Barth, because he is a homosexual. And then Barth wipes his sweat on Tanrak because, again, homosexual. This lead to the two of them playing with each other. I mean, that’s what they were doing!

After that display of homosexual affection, Barth and Tanrak join the rest of the choir for practice, where Tanrak is further charmed by Barth being unable to reach a high note. However, Barth accidentally spilling a pitcher of juice on a female student puts a damper on things. Or at least, I thought it would, because what Barth does is exchange shirts with the girl, so now he’s stuck with a smaller, wetter shirt. Smart!

Once choir practice ends, Barth asks Tanrak to sneak out to the market with him, and I gotta say, are the Catholic schools in Thailand really this strict? My country’s been Catholic for far longer, and it’s never been this strict, at least by the time the 90s rolled around, which is when this is set. Surely going out to the market isn’t an unforgivable sin.

Barth and Tanrak successfully escape to the market and bag some donuts, and I’m sure later down the line someone’s donut hole is going to be filled with cream, but for now, it’s all cute and flirty. Even after they return to the school with one donut, it’s still very cutesy, especially when Barth looks at Tanrak. But when Tanrak says that he feels comfortable around Barth after Barth says the same, Barth asks Tanrak to promise to tell him straight up if there’s anything wrong.

The next day, Kongdech teases Barth about Cherry, the female student he spilled juice on the day before. Barth denies making a move on Cherry, but it does put the idea in Tanrak’s head that he’s crushing on a straight boy. It doesn’t help when Cherry arrives later that day and talks with Barth. Tanrak, honey, crushing on a straight boy is a formative gay experience. Cherish it!

Tanrak’s sulking a little because of the possibility of crushing on a straight boy, and since Barth has a working nervous system, he notices that there’s something wrong with Tanrak. Tanrak doesn’t tell him anything, but that doesn’t stop Barth from being all flirty. It’s the cross you bear when you’re closeted and crushing on a straight boy!

Later that night, Barth goes to Tanrak’s bed and tells him that he needs to talk about Cherry. Turns out Cherry asked Barth to be in the school play, but Barth wants Tanrak to be okay with it before he says yes to Cherry. Barth tells him not to read too much into it and wouldn’t you know, it makes Tanrak smile a little. You’re such a homosexual, Tanrak!

The next day, the two of them get on a bike Barth comandeered from somewhere. What’s with GeminiFourth and bikes in their shows?

Looks like Barth was biking to a Christmas play practice and now Tanrak has to watch Cherry make a move on Barth. He’s upset enough that he fakes an illness and be excused from any other activities.

Tanrak’s caught in the rain as he makes his way back, which I thought would play a bigger part in the episode but it really doesn’t. Everyone’s taking a ~communal~ bath anyway, so it wasn’t like it was going to just be Tanrak in there. But would you look at that, everybody else but Tanrak conveniently finishes bathing and leaves the bathroom just as Barth walks in. They’re both shirtless staring at each other, and Barth is definitely eyeing Tanrak’s body up and down.

Barth’s trying to find out if Tanrak is sick, so he’s got his hand all over Tanrak’s neck trying to see if he has a fever. And then he starts tickling him and then their bodies start getting closer and then their bodies are rubbing against each other and then the lights cut off and then it looks like they’re about to kiss but then the rest of the other guys go back to the shower room. Why’d they even go out in the first place? Or is this a new group of boys?

Anyways, everybody else finishes cleaning up until it’s Barth and Tanrak left alone in the shower room again. Barth finally says what needs to be said and tells Tanrak that he’s running from himself. Tanrak says he doesn’t know how he feels right now, but Barth hits him with the time-honored reply of you felt what I felt as well. Barth also comes out to Tanrak and tells him that he likes him, and then they kiss.

And then they kiss again and it’s definitely not like the kissing from My Love Mix-Up (Thai) either!
