Ron Does Stuff

I know, I know, it’s not the day it airs. But I’m only just a day late! Not as late as before. Let’s get to the episode!

At the end of the previous episode, Yuru and Asa come to an agreement — they’re going to work together to find Ivan and find out whether their parents are alive or not. But are they going to find out anytime soon?

It might not be happening in this episode, because we start out with a younger Gonzo who’s just seen a Daemon while being driven across a bridge. The Daemon is Yozakura, and the one who’s wielding him, at least in this recollection, is Asuma’s mother. Asuma’s mother was thinking of killing herself, and as she tells her story to Gonzo, we find out that she thought of killing herself multiple times before. My goodness.

Part of the reason why she’s thought of doing that multiple time during her life is because of the appaling way her family treats her. Acquiring a pair of Daemons that don’t exactly look general public-friendly didn’t help any. There’s also the fact that Yozakura tells Iori that her family can’t be trusted, which may have been hard to hear at the time, but as episode 18 showed us, he was right.

We then go back to the present, where Gonzo, Asuma, and Fuyuki are looking at Shingo’s dead body, while Asa is asking about Yuru’s gunshot wound while they’re still inside Yin and Yang. Asa correctly points out that getting Yuru’s wound treated without insurance is going to hurt, and at this point I just want to say how much I love the jokes the show makes about living with late-stage capitalism. I can relate!

Asa suggests heading back to the Kagemori manor to get Yuru’s wound treated, and she tries to convince Yuru that the Kagemori’s can be trusted by pointing out that they saved her from the assassins from Higashi village. Asa also explains that Asuma has no problem asking Yuru if he wants to die because he believes that if people are going to keep trying to kill Yuru, he might as well kill himself, get the power of Seal, and defend himself.

Outside Yin and Yang, the Kagemoris, Dera, Kiri and Danji are discussinf what to do with the child kidnapped from Higashi village, which is also how the show drops some exposition about the village. Villagers who reach adulthood are told about Yuru and Asa’s secret, and those who question how things are run are banished to the outside world. If the don’t get killed by the Kagemoris, they actually get to live a life outside of the village.

At this point, Yin and Yang spits out Yuru and Asa, so they get to hear about Akio and his possible connection to Ivan. So of course, Yuru is going to the Kagemori manor, because he and Asa want to squeeze whatever info they can get about either Ivan or their parents from Akio.

Back at the manor, Hagure and Gabby talk mangaka and the beauty of imperfection, while Haruo is pleading with Jin to save Akio’s life, since Gonzo is going to kill him. I know that Haruo is loyal to the Kagemoris now, but I think the inflexibility when it comes to Akio’s situation is going to make him question that loyalty. Or maybe I’m wrong!

And where is Akio? In the Kagemori manor clinic, because technically, one isn’t imprisoned inside the racoon’s balls. But the balls are wrapped around him, and very snugly too. It also seems like Haruo is the only one who wants to spare Akio’s life, which I think is further evidence of my hunch that he’s going to be a turncoat.

We then find out that Akio doesn’t have the ability to feel pain, which Google tells me is an actual condition called Congenital Insensitivity to Pain (CIP) or congenital analgesia. However, his inability to feel pain also made him insensitive to the pain of others, which if I am to believe my repeat viewings of Criminal Minds, is a sign of sociopathy.

While living with the Kagemoris was a consolation for a time, it still wasn’t enough for Akio, so he went online to find people like him — always a bad idea for sociopaths — and instead found people who might be his parents. Did he meet them? Did they put ideas in his head? We don’t know, because Akio’s interrogation is cut short when one of the relics of his Daemons explode, wounding Haruo’s bunny Daemon who was taking them to Fuyuki to be interrogated. The other one disappears.

Or rather, one of them has crawled to the infirmary and explodes.
