I finally sorta caught up with Drag Race France — I know they just released a new episode — so now it’s time to catch up with Drag Race Mexico Latina Royale!
Barbie Q held fast to her Pork Chop status in the previous episode, giving the queens the first taste of elimination. And we find out that production really wanted Barbie Q outta there because Abby would have sent Mariana packing.
The next day, Xunami points out that the badges are all in Mexico right now, which is the same storyline that happened in Drag Race Philippines: Slaysian Royale. Is this season going to be a repeat of that season? We shall see!
The…uhm…Latina? mail arrives, and Desirée deduces that the episode is going to be about girl groups. Taiga and Lolita enter the Werk Room and ask the queens who they think their biggest rival is, and that they should channel that energy into this week’s Maxi Challenge, which is indeed the girl group challenge. it worries Desirée a little, as she got kicked in the face during her season’s girl group challenge, so does that mean history is going to repeat itself, just like it did with Barbie Q?
Regina Voce and Mariana Stars are the two team leaders, and the queens they pick for their groups are Elektra, Matraka, Horacio, and Abby for Regina, while Mariana picks Alexis, Eva, Desirée, and Xunami. The queens are also told that the runway theme is a tribute to their mom, which is where they’re going to insert the emotions.
I thought that the fight this episode was going to come from picking which part of the song they’re going to perform, but the queens decide rather quickly who gets what. Like Horacio said, “But we’re supposed to fight!” From there, they proceed to recording and confirming that this was filmed in the Philippines because Moophs is the one making the song for them.
It’s during the recording session that we see the weak links, one of which is looking to be Alexis. Desirée is also looking like a candidate for elimination, and storyline-wise, it does make sense for her to be the next to go. Abby might be in the bottom as well, but I don’t think they’ll send her home early.
Choreographing the dance is where the friction finally happens, as Alexis and Desirée clash about what to do. It also doesn’t help that Desirée is better at speaking Portuguese instead of Spanish. She’s the Latina queen in a group of wyt queens in this situation! Are they going to finally explode when the two of them end up at the bottom, like I think they will?
Alexis is already emotional the next day, since her mother recently died before the show started filming. But it looks like she’s the only one who has a story about their mother this episode. A tasteful amount of emotion, at least for me.
The performances start, and it’s Xunami and Eva for me in Mariana’s group. I think they really stood out! As for the group choreography…well. They danced! As for Regina’s group, they start out strong, but halfway through the performance, Regina flubs the choreo and just never really recovers from it.
Check out the performances yourself!
We get further proof that this is Desirée’s time to go because she slips during the runway presentation. I thought it was going to be a Lady Camden sort of thing, but no, she really did just slip. And just like Regina, she never really recovers afterwards.
After the runway, Regina, Alexis, Matraka, Desirée, Horacio, and Mariana Stars are the top and bottom queens, so it really is goodbye for Desirée in this episode. I am guessing it’s Matraka and Horacio that are going to battle for the win.
The critiques start, and wouldn’t you know it, Alexis gets good critiques. After all, you don’t want to kick her when she’s already so down with the recent passing of her mother. Desirée is definitely going to lip sync against Regina.
AND THE SHOW TOLD ME TO FUCK OFF, because it’s Alexis and Matraka in the top and Desirée and Mariana in the bottom. I thought it was going to be Matraka and Horacio at the top, and Desirée and Regina at the bottom. It’s harder to predict which of Desirée and Mariana is going home, since they’ve both frequently been in the bottom.
The lip sync starts, and I thought Alexis was ahead, but Horacio pointed out that she was missing words, which of course, I didn’t notice. It looks like the judges noticed as well, because it’s Matraka who wins the lip sync. And as I foretold, it’s Desirée who gets sent home. Also, I finally understand how that lottery ticket thing works!
