Ron Attends Sprite and Spicy at Your Local

People who know me know I’m not exactly the most adventurous when it comes to food, so when I was assigned to this menu launch, I told my editor it might not be the best fit for me. Thankfully, the food wasn’t too out there, and I could try it out!

The event I went to was the launch of Your Local’s Sprite and Spicy menu, which features four new spicy dishes and four drinks made with Sprite, because of course. The prices for the dishes range from P450 to P850, while the prices for the mocktails and cocktails range from P250 to P490.

The new menu items are the spiced salted egg hummus, the spicy beef lechon toast, the sili-mansi udon, and the chicken hoy. The mocktails are a Sprite + Spicy peach mocktail and a Sprite + Matcha mocktail. Lastly, the cocktails are a Sprite +Earl Grey tea cocktail and a Sprite + Lychee cocktail.

I did not try the drinks, but I was able to try all four dishes. I am far from a food writer or a gourmand — my palate is notoriously unsophisticated — so take my recommendations with a grain of salt. I personally liked the spiced salted egg hummus and the chicken hoy. I do wish the chicken had more rice, but that’s more me being a rice fiend and not because the amount of rice detracted from the chicken.

I actually did like the sili-mansi udon as well; however, it was a little too spicy for me, and I probably wouldn’t order it if I was the only one eating it, since I wouldn’t be able to finish it. But if someone was willing to share it with me? I’m down.

My least favorite item on the menu was the spicy beef lechon toast, which I felt was just too oily for me. I also have never really liked lechon ever, so that may have been a factor as well.

After tasting the menu, I also got to talk to Your Local’s Chef Patrick Go, who said that there was no question about Your Local partnering with Sprite.

“With Your Local and Sprite, we share the same values of serving something very refreshing, like a go-to drink or a go-to Asian restaurant here in Makati, and for me, it’s a perfect combination to combine Asian flavors with the refreshing taste of Sprite,” he explained.

Chef Patrick also shared that Sprite gave him carte blanche when it came to coming up with the whole menu.

“They let us do the whole menu. It’s basically matching Your Local signature flavors with Sprite. It was a very, very easy process for us since Your Local is known for doing a lot of Southeast Asian with Filipino flavors, and Filipinos are known to pair Sprite with Philippine food,” he shared.
