I thought that I would be able to catch this as it aired last week, but it didn’t show up on Wow Presents Plus at the time it said it would, and then work piled up, and then I thought I was going to do it during the long break from work I scheduled for myself. But I spent the first day of my break literally just sleeping, so this is why this is coming out now!
Nobody went home during the first episode of the show, so depending on the number of episodes lined up, there might be a double elimination down the line. But that’s something for the future. Let’s focus on this episode, where the queens are celebrating Maitetxu for snatching the first win. Now, do they agree she should have won? Not at all.
Kim Miller also explains why she voted for Coco instead of Joan, and she brings up Coco’s admittedly rude behavior back in the Werk Room while the judges were deliberating. Coco says it’s okay to Kim’s face, but of course, confessionals are another thing. She doesn’t trust that queen at all.
The next day in the Werk Room, the queens discuss what the next challenge might be, but that discussion is cut short by Supremme enterting the Werk Room to tell them that they need to get into quick drag for the mini challenge. And there’s a very specific instruction to not wear panties, because they’ll be fighting over it. Turns out that the challenge is putting on those panties without using their hands, which I swear I first saw on Filipino TikTok. The colonized becoming the colonizer!
Alex Marteen, Coco Luna, and Vanessa Artilles put on their panties the quickest, with Alex being the overall winner. He gets a €500 gift card and is also named one of the three team leaders for a team sewing challenge. Coco and Vanessa are the other two, and the three of them are given the choice to pick the materials they’re going to work with or their teammate first. The materials the queens will choose from are all things that can be found either in a bedroom, a bathroom, or the kitchen. I think this is the first time I’ve seen this done on a Drag Race franchise!
Alex decides to go with teammate first and picks Maitetxu. Meanwhile, Coco picks the materials first and picks the kitchen. Vanessa also goes with teammate first and picks Alma. This goes on until we have the final team composition of Alex, Maitetxu, Liak, and Liz, who are going to work with materials from the bathroom. Vanessa, Alma, Buba, and Joan will work with materials from the bedroom. Coco’s team is made up of Sorny, Marcus, and Kim.
Liak is not happy with her team composition or the materials they have to work with, while Buba is buckling under Vanessa’s regime. And to be fair, the show is making her look like a micromanaging manager. Coco’s team looks like it’s gelling well, but the show could be faking us out and then have Coco’s team crash and burn during the actual fashion show.
Supremme and Ana Locking walk in, and I just love Ana Locking. Coco’s team gets the first visit, and Ana and Supremme both like the royalty theme they’ve got going. But because I’m paranoid, I’m afraid they’ll get overconfident and crash and burn. Meanwhile, Alex is telling Ana about their whole St. Tropez-themed collection that will be using plastic in all the outfits, but Liak is grumbling in the confessional that it’s all hot air and that they have nothing prepared. As for Vanessa’s team, Ana likes the general idea, but reminds them that the outfits need to have a cohesive aesthetic and that they need to work because the designs are ambitious.
Once Supremme and Ana walk out of the Werk Room, the teams start to panic again. Alma is not ~trusting the process~ of her team, while Maitetxu is getting abrasive with her group. Coco’s group looks like it’s doing okay, but Vanessa is not having this kind of tension in the Werk Room, so she’s doing a cleanse. The queens actually think she’s cursing them, and it’s funny to see them scurry away to avoid her.
The next day, the queens discuss whether they’ll be judged as a team or individually. I honestly think it’s going to depend on how cohesive the collections look, but let’s see. There is a lot of tension within Team Alex, as Liak feels like she’s been made to do the entire thing on her own, and some of the other queens are quick to pounce on it and just make things worse.
But it’s not just Team Alex that gets some shade thrown at them, because Kim Miller lobs a grenade at Team Vanessa and tells them that they’re all just Vanessa clones. The girls are fighting! ¡Las chicas se están peleando! I hope that’s correct because I just copied that from Google Translate.
The runway starts, and that bathroom team is going to be in the bottom, I’m sorry. Alex and Liz’s outfits barely involved any construction, and Liak is just shredding her own work in the voiceover. It looks like Maitetxu was the only one who did a decent job. It’s a different story for Team Coco, who does come out with a cohesive collection that all looks like actual construction and tailoring was invovled. They might just win this! Team Vanessa also walks out in a nice collection, so it’s definitely going to be between them and Team Coco for the win.
Team Vanessa wins the challenge, and Joan gets the ultimate win, along with moneymoneymoney! I thought it was actually going to be Team Coco, but I would never question Ana Locking.
Also did somebody say moneymoneymoney?
Unfortunately for Team Coco, they’re in the bottom along with Team Alex. But it looks like Team Alex might be the one to lip sync this time around because Liak goes right out and tells the panel that their team did not work out at all. And Team Coco knows to capitalize on this because when it’s their turn to be critiqued, Coco immediately emphasizes how she loves her group.
Back in the Werk Room, things are all calm until it’s Liak’s time to talk and she really is not happy. And I thought it would be directed to either Alex or Liz, and while Alex gets a little jab, it’s Maitetxu that’s really the object of her frustration. And I think that’s what leads to Maitetxu saying that she’s always going to save herself first to all of the queens, which I think is not the best thing to do, especially since there’s a voting element to the game. You’ve just Morgan McMichaels in All Stars 3 yourself.
When the queens go back to the runway, Alex Marteen, Liak, and Liz Dust are the bottom queens, and whatever way the coin lands, I think the queens are going to send Liak to the bottom. They did not like her bringing up the group’s business to the judges. And I guess I’m an idiot because Liak gets four votes and is saved! Shows me how much I know.
Alex and Liz go at it and…I dunno. I didn’t get to see a lot of lip-syncing. Send both of them home! But if I were to choose just one, I’d send Liz home because I think she spent more time trying to keep her clothes on than actually performing. And once again I am proven wrong, because it’s Alex who gets sent packing!
If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
