I didn’t want to jinx myself, because I’ve done that multiple times with this show and other shows, but I aimed too high and thought that I would be able to catch up with this show by the time the new episode aired yesterday. But I was wrong!
The previous episode saw Moth realize that maybe Mes, and the people Mes hangs out with, aren’t the people for him. Maybe the Moth that hangs out and has fun with Dean is who he is. Let’s see if that still holds true in this episode.
Moth is back to painting at the start of this episode, while Dean is drinking a product placement and asking an app for advice. I don’t know if the app is a product placement, though. The app tells him to just tell the person he likes how he feels, which should really happen anytime now since there’s only one episode left; I’m counting yesterday’s ninth episode.
Moth is also asking for advice, but from a more reliable person — Punn. He’s not asking directly, but he really wants advice on whether he should be with Dean. He deflects by asking about Ten, and then offends Punn by telling him he should have waited a little longer so he could bag himself a better boyfriend than Ten. Thankfully, Punn is smart and tells Moth that Ten might be the wrong person for him, but he’s never going to know until he dates him. Right now, Ten makes him happy, and that should be enough.
And it really does look like it’s enough for Punn! Ten arrives late, and they end up eating take-out, but Punn doesn’t care. He even deletes comments on his Instagram account questioning whether he and Ten are a good match. He even offers to cook for Ten, and at this point I’m wondering why Ten isn’t pulling off Punn’s scrubs and sucking his dick right off, because dude? If you’re hot and you cook for me, I will suck you off.
Elsewhere in Bangkok, Moth and Dean are at a club, and Dean is encouraging Moth to eat some food since it looks like Moth’s been obsessing over the painting he’s supposed to make. Dean also gives great advice by telling Moth to live, so he can be inspired and actually paint. But Moth’s problem isn’t inspiration; it’s direction. Will he keep doing the character stuff that’s been his bread and butter, or will he ~paint~ and be part of Mes’s snotty gang? Moth asks for some distance away from Dean, and Dean agrees even if he’s not really happy about it.
Ten and Punn are having a better time at their date. Punn’s seeing Ten in a whole new light at this small award show thing, and is gassing him up as ~super hot and super talented~. And I have to agree that the actor, Barcode, is super hot.
Elsewhere in Bangkok, Dean gets a call from his mom while he’s moping about Moth, and he gets guilt-tripped into coming back home to celebrate his dad’s birthday. Once he’s there, he messages Moth, hoping for anything, but Moth is still being standoffish, even if the audience sees that his initial reaction to learning about Moth being at his parents’ house is to ask when he’s coming back.
Despite the less-than-satisfactory results, Dean is still trying, sending food over to Moth just in case he gets so focused on painting. It’s a cute way to show the passage of time since Dean sends a lot of food, and the cute notes on the receipts are also great at showing Dean slowly breaking down the walls Moth has.
Once Moth is done with his painting, he has Mes come over to critique it, and Mes likes it! He even tells Moth he’s never seen him paint anything like this before, and that Moth’s become more romantic, which of course is the show telegraphing to the audience that his painting is going to be of Dean.
When the time comes for Dean to finally go back to Bangkok, Moth sends him the address of an art center, where I assume he’ll be showing off that painting of Dean that he finished. And you know what, I was half-right. The painting isn’t just Dean; it’s of Moth and Dean kissing in the midst of a chaotic bar scene.
Moth sees Dean looking at the painting, and he tells him that not only did he put hard work and dedication into making it, but he also put in all his longing for Dean. Cute! They hug, but it’s broken up by Mes, who tells Moth that somebody wants to buy his painting. Dean’s not happy about this interaction at all and heads to the bathroom, where he hears some art snobs making fun of the painting. One of them is the buyer, who’s only interested in the piece because it’s cheap.
Outside, Mes is gassing up Moth, so I guess this is going to be the last-stretch conflict Dean and Moth are going to face as we head into the finale. Mes keeps insisting that painting is the path that Moth should be on, and that he should stop getting distracted by his earlier clients, and it’s all very icky to me, not just because Mes is the antagonist here, but because those are commitments Moth agreed to before Mes came back from New York. It’s unprofessional to just discard them, and I think that’s going to haunt you even if you decide to pivot towards being a ~serious artist~. It’s at this point that Dean swoops in to offer to buy the painting and even pay double, but Moth gently tells him to wait outside.
The reason why Moth told Dean to wait outside? It’s so he could reject Mes and tell him that he’s going to focus on what matters in life, instead of taking whatever path Mes thinks he should be on. I dunno, I think Dean might have enjoyed hearing this whole exchange.
Moth and Dean leave the exhibition, and Moth finally asks Dean if he can stay over at his place. Oh, a bussy is going to get wrecked.
