Ron Does Stuff

Work has been a lot, so I didn’t get to watch this as it aired. But I’m here now, so let’s get into it!

The end of the previous episode definitely came as a shock, as we saw both Lestat and Louis get decapitated, something that’s never happened in the books. But we all know that they’re both going to survive. The question is how they get out of this. Or how they put themselves back together again.

The episode starts with Lestat talking about the immediate aftermath of this decapitation: the world pivoting, upside-down boots, him seeing the stars in the sky. We then find out that Lestat has been having the same dream since his “death”: one where he’s in the forest, transcribing the birds’ song into sheet music. Then waiters appear, and I gotta say at this point the aesthetic reminds me of Hannibal, the television show.

The table starts out with the younger Lestats we’ve seen in episode two, before involving the rest of the people that have come and gone in Lestat’s long life. It is very Hannibal aesthetic, especially that they’re having a dinner, which makes me wonder how the three seasons we’ve gotten would have looked if we had Bryan Fuller as the showrunner, like it was originally planned.

While Lestat is going through that journey, Louis is going through a more ~contemporary~ one, as Armand is doing his reparations and amends thing with his decapitated head, which is still very conscious. He also admits that he did put in those Fred Steins back in season two. And now that Armand is done with his ~Armends~, he wants Louis to do the same. Louis’ head had been severed from his body for more than two hours now, and Armand tells him that this is only possible because Lestat is his maker.

As for Lestat? His body is also in the same butcher shop where Louis’ body and head are also located. His head, however, is in a bowling ball bag headed to the bowling hall with Daniel, who I’m guessing is going to use Lestat’s head as a ball. And while all of that is happening, Lestat is sorta going through therapy in his head as he talks to the ~muses~ he’s been grappling with throughout the season.

Back in the butcher shop, Armand really wants Louis to apologize, and he’s even kidnapped Regina/Fraudia to induce it. Armand also cements his gremlin-ness by revealing that Regina/Fraudia is something he machinated since Dubai. A vindictive little gremlin! He wants Louis to apologize, or he’s going to sew Louis’ head onto Regina/Fraudia’s body. And if you’ve read The Vampire Armand, you know it can be done. That wasn’t my favorite part of The Vampire Armand, by the way.

At the bowling alley, Lestat’s head isn’t being used as a bowling ball, but Daniel is enjoying getting back at him for the ~telepathic prank~ done on him in episode three. Alex is also there at the bowling hall, but he’s being very quiet and just looking at everything. What’s he going to do?

Meanwhile, Armand is poking and prodding at Louis body at the butcher shop, and I’m guessing this is where Louis loses his leg or foot. But we don’t get to see that yet, as Regina/Fraudia is having a very bad day and almost slits her wrists under Armand’s orders.

Over in Lestat’s bowling bag, we have a new addition to the long table as the tenor from season one makes a return. He gets his licks in before we’re taken back further in time, back to when Lestat saw the witches burn, and it is heartbreaking. And Sam Reid? Smashes it.

While Lestat is going through it in his subconscious or whatever it is, Daniel is accosted by Raglan James and the Talamasca, and they want Lestat’s head, Real Rashid is over where Louis is, waiting for the butcher shop to open. Which isn’t happening, since the owner is celebrating Shabbat. Louis is definitely losing that leg.

But as of the moment, it looks like it is consciousness that he’s losing first, as he isn’t even registering completely that Regina/Fraudia has slit her wrist. While all of that is happening, Raglan is telling Daniel that the Great Conversion is something that the Talamasca was nudging and encouraging, and that they want Lestat and the concert to continue. The reason? To cull the human population. Thanos-y!

Over at the butcher shop, Armand finally gets his apology, and it is a good apology, with Louis acknowledging his faults and how he used Armand’s own horrible childhood to take advantage of him. Armand finally lets Regina/Fraudia go, and leaves Fareed to do what he can to put Louis together again.

Things are also getting to a head in Lestat’s…uh…head, and I love that whole scene where he and his muses look back at his ~failure~ of a life. It really shows that this was written by playwrights because it’s got that feel to it, if you know what I mean? It feels like live theater even if it isn’t. All the way to when Lestat finally reckons with his life, and Paul makes an appearance. Paul, who tells him that Lestat loved Louis the way he needed to be loved, and that Louis just finds it difficult to say that he loves Lestat too. Lestat then sees what he thinks is heaven, but I recognize those lines from The Queen of the Damned.

So! Lestat doesn’t go to heaven. He’s brought back, head sewn back on, and having an argument with his mom, whom he finally has the strength to say no to. Louis is also there, but then we are taken back to when Lestat finished recording this. And it’s a crazy time because it looks like Montreal has been demolished. Oh, they’re expanding on The Queen of the Damned. I can’t wait for the next season! Give them a bigger budget!
