I shouldn’t have jinxed myself last week when I watched this on time, because now work got busy again and now I’m late again. But I’m catching up now!
After finding out that Danji is also a Daemon in the previous episode, Yuru is so pissed off with the lifetime of lies he’s been fed, and he asks to be alone for a while. We know he’s coming back, of course, but is it happening within the episode, or is this going to be a multi-episode thing?
Yuru is out in the forest, trying to have a think, but he’s joined by the dog that just happens to have a pair of Daemons bonded to him. I found it relatable when Yuru bemoaned the city not giving him the space to think, because that really is so true. Even here in my filthy little home, I get bombarded with all the things I’ve accumulated. There’s nowhere to just be. And I know I can avoid some of these things, but I don’t have the will to do it. Something to improve on!
BUT GETTING BACK TO THE SHOW. Yuru recalls a memory where Danji comforted him right after his parents left him and fake!Asa, which sorta compels him to go back and rejoin the rest of the gang. However, Danji isn’t there, since he’s sensed his other half — fake!Asa — somewhere and he’s going to find here by himself.
Or at least, that’s the plan. The two Daemons who have a dog master join him to help him find his other half, with the ulterior motive of gaining even more ~legendary friends~. While that’s happening, the rest of the gang, including Oshirasama, hang out at Hana and Dera’s place and they’re watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood on the TV. I love it! Even the part where Jiro was watching Alexander and Nina.
And then when they had Shou Tucker speak for Dera when Yuru figured out pretty quickly that Dera probably has new info about his parents since he met up with Kagemori Jin? Hilarious. Yuru gets informed about the state of the village, as well as the hostages Ivan took with him, and now he wants to rescue them and maybe get some truth about the village.
Meanwhile, Asa is making it clear at the Kagemori compound that she wants to see her brother again. It’s getting in the way of Hagure’s manga production, which even outsiders know is punishing. So many articles I’ve read about how mangaka are overworked in Japan. Good thing Hagure’s already independently wealthy!
We also find out that the suited bodyguards we’ve been seeing with the Kagemoris are siblings! Or at least, they were raised together like siblings. Haruo, the one with the Tortoise and Hare Daemons, is a brother to Fuyuki and Natsuki, as well as the bald dude Akio who has the huge Daemon that couldn’t fit in a building. But it’s also implied that these siblings are not happy being Kagemori foot soldiers. Interesting. Especially since Fuyuki and Natsuki are leaving with Gonzou and Gabby to the same warehouse where Yuru is meeting Ivan.
Things are not looking good at the warehouse, as a Daemon has managed to sneak up on Yuru without anybody noticing. I’m guessing it’s the pair of Asuma’s Daemons since it’s using moths as well, but it looks the complete opposite of that other Daemon. It’s a huge skull with talons and flames coming out of its mouth, and even Left and Right can’t detect him. When Yuru finally calls out to Dera, he can’t do much about it as bullets just pass through the Daemon. Even Left and Right can’t punch their way through him. The Daemon takes Yuru to the assigned warehouse, where Ivan’s sword Daemons transport him to where Asuma and his uncle are.
Asuma’s Daemons are Kin’u-gyokuto, with the skull one named Yozakura. The other half is Asagiri, who can only operate during the day. Yozakura, on the other hand, can only operate during the night. Asuma’s planning to kill Yuru to unlock Seal, since he believes that he and Asa should be under the control of someone capable.
Meanwhile, Left and Right and Dera are left to deal with Ivan in the warehouse, where there are already a lot of dead people who I assume are the bandits from Higashi village. Ivan then reiterates something Right said to Asa during the assault on the Kagemori compound — the two of them are the natural enemies to Break and Seal. But what does that mean?
I wrote in my post about that episode that “Right can neutralize Asa’s Break ability, while Left can neutralize Yuru’s still dormant Seal ability”, but I don’t have the time to rewatch to see if that was actually said or if I just came to that conclusion. Either way, Ivan is looking to get rid of Left. Let’s see how this turns out!
