I know I said in the previous post that I was going to blog about this on Mondays, but the past few days have been so busy that I haven’t been able to stick to that schedule. So it might just be me constantly trying to catch up, especially now that I’m multiple episodes behind.
The queens return back to the Werk Room and mourn the loss of Liz Dust, who Sorny actually thought would win the whole thing. They also start calling Liak a power bottom, which might just be true even outside of Drag Race España. You know guys that look like Liak are big ole bottoms. Alma also reminds me that Liz is actually the third queen to have their dick out on the show, because Marina also did it back in season two.
The next day, Alma brings some hot tea. Two of the queens slept together the night before? And it’s Liak and Coco? AND LIAK WASN’T BOTTOMING? I am so shocked! My Catholic sensibilities! But before the discussion can go any further, Supremme walks in and tells them that they need to get into their pop star looks for the next mini challenge.
The mini challenge is basically charades, with the queens grouped into trios. One of them is going to have the song blasting in their ears, and then the other two will have to guess what song it is while the other queen acts it out. I don’t know any of the songs, so I don’t know how funny the queens were acting it out, but I do know that Alma, Liak, and Vanessa’s group wins and gets €250 each.
The queens are then told that today’s Maxi Challenge is the Snatch Game, and Liak immediately says in the confessionals that she’s rehearsed her character back at home and that she’s going to surprise the queens this week, which just tells me that she’s the one going home. I just know it.
Supremme does her walkthrough, and maybe it’s just an issue with the translation, but did Marcus not mention his Snatch Game character? We see Liak saying he’s doing Maluma, Kim might possibly do Sagittaria, but Marcus teases his character but doesn’t name it. Or did he? My Spanish isn’t that good!
The Snatch Game starts and…I recognize Maluma and Veneno, at first. And then there’s Beethoven, who is apparently Marcus’ character, and ooohhhh. You in danger, girl!
Another character I recognize is Winnie Sanderson, who is of course being played by Vanessa, the season’s resident witch. And I just wanna make it clear here that not knowing the characters shouldn’t be a problem, since the queens will be playing them in such broad strokes anyway. I really liked the Snatch Gamer from the first season of Drag Race España, and most of their characters weren’t recognizable to anyone who didn’t grow up in Spain.
AND WOULDN’T YOU KNOW IT, WHOEVER WAS PLAYING ANA OBREGON DID AN EPSTEIN JOKE. It was sorta funny! Kim Miller was also funny as the mayor of Vigo, and I have no idea who that person is. Liak’s Maluma is also good enough, so maybe he’s going to be one of the safe queens for once.
Or maybe not, because in the confessional, Maitetxu says Liak is hogging the spotlight, and Supremme made a point of saying in the Werk Room that one shouldn’t hog the spotlight. And then that spotlight hogging becomes an issue, and now I’m sure Liak is going to be in the bottom again. Marcus and Vanessa are going to join him there, and if the coin flip ends on tails, the queens are going to condemn Liak to the bottom because that’s the storyline being set up right now.
ANYWAYS, the standouts for me were Kim, Buba, and whoever was playing Ana Obregon. By the end of the Snatch Game, I wanted an invite to go to Vigo too! The beach looks nice, if the Vigo I googled is the same Vigo where Kim is from.
The next day, Liak’s Maluma becomes an issue when Maitetxu says it ate into the other queens’ time, and Liak says he needed that time because he’s been in the bottom constantly. The other queens then bring up that Liak always throws other people under the bus when he performs badly, so are we going to see a repeat of what happened in episode two?
After that discussion, the queens get ready for the runway, and while doing so, talk about ageism in the drag community in Spain, specifically Barcelona. The queens say that people shouldn’t look down on older queens, and I think that Drag Race España is the right franchise to deliver this lesson because a majority of their winners have been seasoned queens.
We also get to hear about Marcus and his grandmother not knowing his sexual orientation and that he did drag, and that she died without knowing. He also talks about how her family dealt with the same topics, and in the back of my mind I keep thinking — this is the episode Marcus goes home because they’re telling their story.
This week’s runway theme is Encased in Lace, and first to walk on the runway is Liak. I liked her look! The other looks I liked were Alma’s and Marcus’. After the runway, Alma, Maitetxu, and Sorny are declared safe, which means either Liak or Marcus is going home this episode. I feel like the queens are going to save Vanessa if the coin lands on heads, and condemn Liak if it lands on tails.
The judges’ critiques start, and while they note how Liak got grating during the Snatch Game, his horny Maluma was at least a point of view. They also had good things to say about his outfit, so maybe Liak might just be safe, for once. And it looks like it might be Vanessa, Marcus, and Coco in the bottom. To be honest, I didn’t even remember Coco, so I guess she does deserve that possible bottom placement.
After the critiques, the queens first console Marcus before Maitetxu goes in on Liak. Liak does have a point, though. The other queens could have riffed with his Maluma, the same way Jinkx’s Little Edie did back in season five. Not that Liak’s Maluma is a Little Edie level, but if the other queens were smart, they wouldn’t have let Liak hog the spotlight.
Wouldn’t you know it, Liak is safe, for once. Buba wins! Supremme then flips the coin, and it lands on heads. THEN we get a three-way tie. Damn. But there’s apparently already a rule for this that I probably forgot. Buba’s vote is the one that will count, so it’s Coco who’s saved, and it’s Marcus and Vanessa battling it out. Hate to say it, but Marcus is probably the one going home.
And I’m proven right. To be fair, Vanessa and her microphone did dominate that lip sync. Marcus didn’t go down without a fight, but in the end, Vanessa still dominated.
If any of you guys like what I do, feel free to leave me a tip!
