Again, apologies for being late on this again. But I need to work, okay? I exist in late-stage capitalism, and I am unfortunately beholden to it.
We saw Malawitte become the second queen to leave the show in the previous episode, and as is customary, the queens mourn her and wish her well before moving on to their plans for the coming days. Lana is planning to bring pâté! It’s not as drama-filled just yet, since we’re only on episode three, but the queens will probably get cattier as more of them go home.
In the Werk Room the next day, Daisy lives up to the SuperBitch moniker by involving La Harpie in a ~discussion~ with Azémylia about how they think she didn’t deserve to be in the top if it was only the runway being considered. It doesn’t devolve into a full-blown fight just yet, but let’s wait further down the line.
With that discussion done, we find out who the recipient of the Golden Baguette is, and it’s none other than Holly White, who thinks that she deserves a safety net after the last episode. Nicky then enters the Werk Room to tell them they’re doing the reading mini-challenge today, which I think is the earliest it’s ever been for a non-All-Star season? Anyways, I don’t know if it’s just the translations, but I couldn’t quite get into them until Daisy and Holly. Holly wins the challenge, although I preferred Daisy’s overall.
This time around, the mini-challenge win does mean something, because Holly now gets to decide the roles for this week’s Maxi Challenge, a Rusical. They’re calling it musidrag, and I understand why, but Rusical is just such a perfect name for this challenge. There’s some slight tension between La Harpie and Daisy since they want the same role, but Holly doesn’t see La Harpie in that role, so that’s that.
I am surprised that we don’t get to see them rehearse since that’s where the tension usually rises. Instead, we immediately go to the day of the production, where apparently we have a last-minute change, and La Harpie is getting the director role that Holly had given to Daisy. Holly’s just going to let that happen? And also, would you have enough time to do an entirely different role than the one you rehearsed?
We don’t explore that as much as I would like, because it’s Azémylia’s turn to speak now about her dealing with psoriasis during early adulthood, complete with appropriate background music. Margarette also chimes in about dealing with an eating disorder, and Daisy adds that she’s also had body image issues. Maybe it’s because it’s been a while since I’ve watched a regular Drag Race France season, but it does feel a little more dramatique than usual.
The Rusical starts and…well, I’ve never really understood Drag Race France‘s Rusicals, And La Harpie isn’t exactly killing it in the director role either, so this might just be her time to go. I do like the digs at influencers and social media ~stars~.
We then get to the runway with the theme Museum Night, and cliche as it is, this is really where Drag Race France shines. Sublyme starts off strong with a The Swing-inspired outfit that is just stunning. It’s one good outfit after another, and I also particularly liked Margarette’s dress inspired by Claude Monet’s series on water lilies, and Fluffy Bidule’s striking outfit inspired by Max Ernst’s “Angel of the Hearth”.
Sublyme and Azémylia are the safe queens this week, and as the critiques start, it looks like Holly and Lana might just be in the bottom. All the other queens left got great critiques. In the end, it’s Fluffy that gets the win, while Holly, Lana, and Margarette are in the bottom. Holly saves herself with the Golden Baguette, and Lana and Margarette lip sync to…a French song. I don’t know the song, but this is definitely something that I really admire Drag Race France and Drag Race España for. I wish Drag Race Philippines also used more Filipino songs!
The lip sync wasn’t particularly legendary, but I am alway a sucker for a comedic performance like Margarette did. Unfortunately, Nicky does not agree and sends her home.
