The previous episode got me good after it made me think it was Asa that was going to get attacked by Akio, who now resides in a raccoon’s balls. Let’s see what the show has in store for me in this episode!
For this episode, we go all the way back to the past, when Asa was still in Higashi village. She’s being taught by her father how to communicate via smoke signals, but the lesson is cut short by her mom, who tells them they’ll attract attention if they do this outside the village. We also learn that there were still pay phones around when she wandered into the village, so it has been a while, to say the least.
Then we go back to the present, where Shingo introduces his Daemon pair, Fujin-Raijin, which controls air and lightning, respectively. Unfortunately for him, he’s left his minions thinking that Yuru has him held hostage because he also fried his phone in the process of subduing Yuru. Dera and the bandit he’s with now have a way to get to them, as the minions have ordered somebody lower down the totem pole to check on Shingo, and wouldn’t you know it, Dera and the bandit are also there.
Dera and the bandit get to Shingo’s location, but they’re unable to rescue Yuru as Asuma has his Daemon take Yuru somewhere else. BUT, turns out I have been fooled again, as Asuma’s Daemon wanted Dera to follow him. Turns out Asuma hates Shingo, but is working with him so that their faction of the Kagemoris can find evidence on Shingo and wipe them out. We also find out that Asuma’s Daemon pair, Yozakura and Asagiri, are no match for Fujin-Raijin, which is why they can’t make a move against him.
Now we check in on someone we haven’t seen for a while — fake!Asa and the human hostage from Higashi village. While everyone’s discussing the situation with Shingo, she’s extending her tendrils discreetly, and wouldn’t you know it, she’s extended them far enough to reach Danji. She tells him the whole situation, but Danji needs Yuru to help him out since he’s not exactly a fighter, and neither are the ~alien~ Daemons who have a dog master.
It’s here where we call back to the opening scene of the episode. Danji uses smoke signals to communicate with Yuru, and now Yuru has to make a choice. Will he confront Ivan, who Dera tells him knows something about his parents, or help out the hostages being held by the Shingo faction?
But it looks like he doesn’t have to make that choice, as it is Asa who shows up to where the hostages are held. I mean, she was taught those smoke signals as well.
